Gusty is a true story about a family dog and his family including another dog, Toby; a monkey, Flip; and three children. They have extraordinary adventures, some very funny, some sad, but most of all about a loving family and their home and vacations.

Gusty edition by Roberta Terry Children eBooks

It's presented as a straight up, first-person doggie memoir - - it's straightforward - - it tells real events as they happened, but what's remarkable is what is really going on here: the writer remembers in incredible detail observed, and very much shared, experiences - - by watching animal emotion, behavior, and having mutual experiences - - there is something deeply interactive and emotionally resonant going on. This may well happen between many dogs and dog owners, but to have it portrayed "in the mind of the leash-ed one" so vividly - - it comes across as very real, as if this could truly speak of the nature of that animal's experience. So many vivid memories that have endured over time - - and the minimalism of the narrative - - if dogs COULD speak, this just sounds like it would very much hit it on the nail. The simplicity belies what is going on here - - this is not mere storytelling, this is a kind of direct perception, presented without adornment, without interpretation, that carries remarkable insight, and points to what is genuinely shared between creatures - - with wholly different perceptions sets - - but who still share whole lives.

Gusty edition by Roberta Terry Children eBooks Reviews

As I was skimming book covers for an interesting book to read and I came across a dog with green rubber boots and a very concentrated look. I thought this must be a kids book but to my surprise it was a life story of a dog living with a very busy, interesting and loving family. Or maybe it was a family living with a very busy, interesting and loving dog. After reading this book, I now envy the life of a dog named Gusty. I cannot wait to hear about Gusty’s life in Europe. Fantastic book. It was simply wonderful.
This was an amazing little book! I just kept turning page after page and couldn't put it down until I finished it. Gusty is a story that can be read and enjoyed by all. The love and strong family values shines through from page one.
This is a well written short novel that never gets dull. The author keeps the "tail" going from beginning to end.
