Nothing But Sky Amy Trueblood Books

I absolutely ADORED this gorgeous debut by Amy Trueblood! I'm a HUGE fan of historical fiction and I have a special spot in my heart for the 1920s, so I was SO excited to pick up this book! I immediately connected with Grace and her fierce, determined mindset. She is certainly no damsel in distress and I loved that about her! We need more characters like her, and personally, I wish I had her gumption!

I also made an instant connection with Trueblood's writing style. You can really tell that she did her research and that she was passionate about her subject matter. That passion and attention to detail really showed up in her writing and I found it so easy to imagine myself in Grace's world.

And when Henry shows up....ahhh! I just love slow burn, enemies to lovers romances and this one was RIGHT up my alley!

Overall, I have to say that I simply devoured this book in every possible way and I can't recommend it enough! It's a fantastic novel and a shining star in what is surely going to be a bright career for Trueblood. If you love historical novels with strong, ambitious female protagonists, a dash of romance, and a little bit of danger then this book is for you!

Nothing But Sky Amy Trueblood Books Reviews

I love historical fiction with strong, true-to-life heroines. So does my 88-year-old MIL who LOVED it, having grown up in a similar time and place.Amy Trueblood has captured an era. Grace will capture your imagination and your heart!
What a wonderful debut from Author Amy Trueblood! While I normally read contemporary fiction, Nothing But Sky was an awesome book of historical fiction. I knew nothing about barnstorming or wing walkers when I started this book, but learned so much about these courageous, strong women who made their living from the daring, risky feats of walking on the wings of planes to entertain crowds. I enjoyed every bit of Grace's journey, with a sweet romance sprinkled in, from small town attraction to big star who never forgets who she is or what's really important. I would definitely recommend!
Absolutely loved this thrilling ride with Grace up in the wild blue yonder. Loved the flavor of the 1920s and all the technical details about barnstorming--a lot of research clearly went into the story. Grace is tough and no-nonsense, but in a way completely believable to her time and profession, and I love all her complicated relationships throughout. Historical fans will love this!
This is an action-packed book about barnstormers and a young airplane wing walker determined to succeed. Grace is a fun protagonist and will win your heart. Also, the romance oozed swoon. Just sayin'. D
I LOVE this book.

Until I read NOTHING BUT SKY, I had no idea crowds flocked to watch wing walkers in the 1920s, but I loved learning about it. That's what's so fantastic about historical fiction--you get to learn about pieces of history you had no clue existed. I read about these stunts with my mouth hanging open, and then I went to watch the YouTube videos she mentioned in the author's note to discover real people actually did this stuff. It's crazy but amazing and I wouldn't have known anything about it without this book.

The historical setting is so rich, with tidbits about popular music and film, fashion, the economy, and daily life sprinkled into the narrative. It's very well done. I love being sucked into another time.

I love how the romance develops in the story, with both Grace and Henry growing together. Just the right blend of tension.
Ever since I first learned about Bessie Coleman a couple years ago, I have been dying to read more about female barnstormers. Nothing but Sky was everything I've been dreaming of!

This book does such a phenomenal job of capturing the early, golden days of aviation. All of the barnstorming scenes are a blast to read, and captured so vividly. The pace of the story feels effortless, and a ton of action gets packed into a relatively short book.

Grace, of course, is the best part. She is sharp, smart, and straightforward in a way that immediately made me root for her. I particularly loved that, although Grace is extremely capable and operates within a traditionally masculine field, the character didn't fall into the usual tropes of "woman in a man's world." Grace's ambition doesn't come at the expense of her kindness, compassion, or love for her family, which made her feel like a more complex and truly human character.

I had so much fun reading Nothing But Sky. Highly recommend!
I don't read enough YA historicals, I've decided. But I'm not sure they'd live up to the perfection that is Nothing But Sky. It's clear that Amy did her research because everything is explained in such great detail that you never even question whether or not she knows what she's talking about. Because it's so obvious that she does. Grace is absolutely fearless and is my new hero. The descriptions of her flights, the tricks she practices, it was almost like being up there with her. Not something I would do in real life because fear of heights is a real thing. This book is the perfect blend of action, adventure, and romance and will definitely transport you to a different time, maybe not necessarily simpler, but that's a good thing because it keeps the action going. All in all it was one of my favorite reads of the year.
